Washed Process

Also known as: wet process, fully washed, washed coffees

A processing method in which the fruit is removed and the beans are fermented and washed before drying, producing clean, bright coffees.

After pulping, the beans soak in tanks for anywhere from about 12 to 72 hours while microbes break down the sticky mucilage. The coffee is then washed and dried. Washed coffees tend to taste crisp and transparent to their origin.
