Coffee glossary
Espresso
A concentrated coffee brewed by forcing hot water through finely ground, compacted coffee at about 9 bar of pressure, typically in 25–30 seconds.
A standard double espresso uses 16–20 g of coffee to produce about twice that weight in liquid. Espresso is a brewing method rather than a type of bean or roast — any coffee can be brewed as espresso, though medium and darker roasts are traditional.
